Vessel sinks sit on top of a vanity counter and make a design statement. Semi-recessed, this style is popular because it allows the top portion of the sink to serve as a design element with the rest of the sink bowl being submerged below the surface. The result is less mass sitting on the vanity counter, and they do not require a tall faucet. An undermount sinks leaves none of the sink showing above the counter. Instead, a hole matching the shape of the sink is cut into the counter top, and the top of the sink lip is fastened to the underside of the counter top.
